My name is Susan Riley-Nevers - I am the Chair and a Trustee of the Friends of Highworth. I joined the Friends in 2018 as a volunteer. In that capacity, I had the opportunity to chaperone students at various school discos, act as an onsite first aider, and provide refreshments. After a year of volunteering, I stood for the chair position in 2019 and was duly elected.
I have a child at Highworth, and I believe that it is vital for parents, wherever possible, to engage with and support the school in whatever capacity they can. I appreciate that it is not always possible through volunteering, but each person can choose what is best for them. In my case, I have an extensive history of working with young people therefore volunteering made sense.
I am passionate about doing whatever I can to assist Highworth to ensure the students have a positive, productive and enjoyable experience on their academic journey. I am committed to inclusion and diversity and keen to engage parents and young people to join the Friends. In my life, I wear many heads and work primarily as an education consultant and examination invigilator.
My name is Sharon Thomas, and I have served as the Vice Chair of the Friends of Highworth since 2023. I am responsible for assisting the Chair in overseeing the operations of the Charity and working as part of the team to attain our goals. I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to serve in this role, and I am excited about the bright future of the Friends of Highworth and its commitment to making a difference.
I'm Sabine, and I have been the Secretary for the Friends since 2022. I'm very organised, which should be useful in the role!
I have three children, one of which, Johanna, started at Highworth in 2019, and my youngest daughter started there in 2022 September.
I work part-time as a Guide Dog Mobility Instructor and can't pass a dog anywhere without talking to it. I tend to do crafty stuff in my spare time and love to bake, cook and read a good novel.
I joined the Friends and became the treasurer in 2023. With extensive experience in accounting, auditing, and compliance, I bring a wealth of expertise to my role overseeing the financial systems, controls processes, and reporting operations of the Friends. As a proud father of a daughter attending Highworth Grammar School, I am thrilled to give back to this community by sharing my skills and knowledge with the Friends.
I am Mwaka; I assist the Treasurer and the Friends of Highworth since 2023 to achieve their objectives. I am a local Ashford resident, I have a business and accounting background and enjoy giving back to the community.
I joined the Friends in 2019. I have given my time as a volunteer at school events, and in 2020 I took on the Media Coordinator role. I also organised the annual Festive Fair between 2021-23, with 80-90 stall holders and around 1000 visitors yearly. We can do so much together to enrich the children's education, and I enjoy being part of a fantastic group.
I'm Soumya, I joined the Friends in 2023; as the volunteering coordinator, I feel that my role is crucial in bringing parents and the community together to support the education and development of our children. As a mother with a child at the school, I am personally invested in creating a positive impact on the lives of children and providing them with opportunities to learn and grow. With my experience of over 15 years of working with children and families, I believe I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this role. I am passionate and committed to engaging parents and volunteers to support the school community, ensuring our children receive the best education and experiences. Putting my skills and experience to good use and contributing towards creating a community that works towards the benefit of children gives me immense satisfaction.

My name is Duncan Beer and I am the Headteacher at Highworth Grammar School. I joined the school in 2008 as a Modern Languages teacher, and have seen the impact of the Friends’ contributions to our community first hand, ranging from the school Minibus to the equipment in the new Vink Centre. The regular events such as the Discos and the Christmas Craft Fair also add to the experiences of the students and our links to the local community
