About Us
What do we do?
Friends of Highworth is a registered charity, initially registered in 1972. The Friends raise funds with regular school events but are also exploring new ways to enhance their productivity after Covid-19. The plan is to involve the students more in the fundraising and events as the money raised is there to advance their education and fund facilities and activities that are not normally provided by the local educational authority. The team is made up of parents of the pupils at Highworth Grammar School for Girls and members of the community. The Friends are always open for new volunteers - we can all use our skills and time to boost the children's education in secondary school and sixth form. Christmas Craft Fair
The Friends organise the Christmas Fair every year in November at Highworth, we always have about 80-90 stalls. The kitchen we run during this time is bustling! This has been our biggest money-raising event throughout the years, and it is extremely popular.
School Discos
We raise money every year by organising school discos for Highworth and Knatchbull. This is especially popular among the year 7 and 8 students. The disco also allows the children to have fun outside school hours in a safe environment.
Grand Raffle
The Grand Raffle always draws great interest and functions with the distributed tickets to friends and family via the pupils and also sold during the Christmas Fair. Prizes have been generously donated by local firms and hampers are created based on donations from staff, parents and local suppliers. The draw proves to be popular and it is always lovely to hear the joy in the voice of the lucky recipients, from the draw.
Quiz Night
The Friends organise the Quiz Night annually, this is another popular fundraising event we host every spring.
Second Hand Uniform Sales
The Friends takes care of washing, organizing and selling the second-hand uniforms. This has been a beneficial service for students over the years, and it also ensures a daily supply of emergency uniforms.
Refreshments on School Events
The Friends run the refreshment stalls at the Bandstand concerts, Quiz Nights and the Hijac summer concert, and other musical events and drama productions. Sometimes we provide refreshments for dance shows, and we run the busy kitchen during the most prominent event: The Christmas Fair.
Friends Logo Competition 2021
We want the students to start to get involved! We launched the logo competition in February 2021 to design the logo for the Friends of Highworth. Mabel Norman's winning design is now on our website! They also won a £50 Amazon voucher.
